Managing Menopause Symptoms with Confidence

elderly woman

Over the course of our lives, we women have ever-changing but ALWAYS important health needs. Menopause can be a challenging time, but it does not have to catch you unawares and unsure of how to handle it. Read on to learn more about how to manage menopause symptoms with confidence!

Diet, Exercise & More

To begin, we often think of menopause as a time when quality of life steeply declines. However, this is a MYTH! In reality, “published medical research clearly shows that menopause doesn’t have to be the beginning of the end of quality of life but instead can start a whole new, fulfilling chapter in a woman’s life” (National Council on Aging). According to the NCOA, “you can manage symptoms of menopause by following a few key tips.”

In terms of diet, vitamins and minerals are key, especially: magnesium, iron, essential fatty acids, calcium, zinc, vitamin D, and the B vitamins (NCOA). It is also critical to embrace a generally healthy diet during this time by eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and lean meat. Trigger foods for menopause symptoms include sugar, alcohol, spicy food, and caffeine, so avoid these! You may want to talk to your doctor about including certain supplements in your diet, such as a phytoestrogen supplement that supports your hormones (Healthline).

Exercise is another important element of managing menopause symptoms. It can help with energy, metabolism, sleep, your joints, and more! It does not need to be high-intensity. Focus on movement such as pilates or a short walk every day. (Healthline).

Mental Health & Doctor Appointments

Anxiety is often a symptom of menopause, which is compounded by fatigue, mood swings, and more. Finding healthy ways to manage your stress is critical during this time and can help you feel better in general (Healthline). Getting support is a good way to start.
