We have all been told countless times that exercise is important, right? Making it a consistent reality in our lives can be a different story, though. We women are all different ages, have different preferences, and have differing health needs. Are you looking to be more active? Read on to learn more about how to tailor exercise to YOU!

Movement is important no matter our age. However, age can impact the types of movement that are more beneficial for us. It is recommended that women exercise for at least 2.5 hours weekly (or about 30 minutes five days out of the week) with at least two days of muscle strengthening (Type A Training). Struggle with fatigue? Go for a walk and tone your muscles with light dumbbells. Love challenging, sweaty workouts? Try Crossfit! Pregnant? Remember not to lift heavy. At risk of falls? Focus your workouts on mobility and balance (Type A Training).

Exercise should push you, but it should make you feel good. It definitely should not put you at risk of injury. No matter who you are, it’s important to warm up before exercise, hydrate, use workout gear properly, and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY (SK Vision)!

In addition to tailoring exercise to our age and health needs, we can also tailor exercise to our lifestyle and preferences! We probably all know at least one person who rises before the sun to go on a run. That is a great form of exercise, but if that’s not for you, that’s okay!

Exercise comes in many forms- martial arts, dancing, swimming, lifting, pilates, and walking, just to name a few! Find what’s fun for you! If it helps you, workout with others or find an accountability partner to keep you consistent.

Your exercise regimen doesn’t need to be perfect- just be moving in a way that works for you! Exercise supports your short-term and long-term physical and mental health (SK Vision)– don’t put it on the back burner. Talk to your primary care provider about what a good approach to exercise might look like for you! Having support and guidance can make a big difference.

At Compass Community Health, we’re here to support you no matter what your health journey looks like. Compassionate care is who we are! Your health is important to us– schedule an appointment by calling (740) 355-7102.
