Women have specific health needs throughout their lives, and knowing how to care for yourself as a woman is paramount! Do you want to know how to start supporting your health as a woman, or do you need to get back to the basics? Read on!
Diet & Exercise
We have all been told to eat right and exercise, but it can be a struggle to know what that means or to keep up with it in our busy lives. However, eating well and staying active make SUCH a difference in our immediate and future well-being and should be prioritized as much as possible! A habit of healthy eating has lifelong benefits (Desert Care Network) and according to Women’s Healthcare of Princeton, “It’s hard to overstate the importance of regular physical activity…Finding the time for 30-60 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week can help you sleep better, give you more energy, help control unhealthy food cravings, and keep you at a healthy body weight.” Talk to your Primary Care Provider if you have questions about diet, and embrace some type of physical activity that you enjoy!
Stress Management & Self-Care
Self-care is choosing to respect yourself. While this can certainly include bubble baths and candles, it’s more about stress management and behavioral health, eating well, fun physical activity, sleeping well, etc. According to Desert Care Network, “Stress takes a toll on your body in the present and future.” You don’t want to let it run amok and end up seriously damaging your mental and physical health- make taking care of yourself a priority, reduce stress where you can, and be in a community with both friends and professionals!
Doctor Appointments & Prevention
When it comes to Women’s Health, prevention is key! As the old adage goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Regularly going to the doctor (which includes Primary Care, your OBGYN, etc.) can make a big difference in terms of education, monitoring your health and noticing as quickly as possible when something is wrong, and getting early treatment. You don’t want to start going to the doctor only when a health issue has turned into a monster- make sure you are scheduling check-ups and regular screenings!
